This report provides a brief overview of the limited research on adult day services conducted to date. It presents an overview of state approaches to regulating adult day services for elderly persons. Findings from site visits to adult day service providers in five state, and providers' and stakeholders' views on regulatory issues in their states is also presented. [81 PDF pages]

Many observers have concluded that the medical malpractice litigation system needs improvement. Medical malpractice cases are extremely complicated, requiring proof of injury, proof of the health care provider's fault, and determination of economic and noneconomic damages.

This study adds to understanding by updating information on trends in use of disability equipment and exploring how disability and other characteristics differ for equipment users and nonusers. Data are from the 1984-1999 rounds of the National Long Term Care Survey, which has been a key source of earlier information on trends in equipment use.

Although adult day care and adult day health care are increasingly promoted as key community-based services for older persons, little is known about their provision, utilization, or outcomes; this is largely due to a paucity of data.

This paper describes the work that will be undertaken to conform the MDS content with health information technology standards endorsed by the Federal Government through the Consolidated Health Information(CHI) Initiative. [3 PDF pages]
